Trouble touching your toes? Well, that’s not the point, anyway! The goal of a forward bend is not, in fact, to “bend” but instead to fully extend and lengthen the spine while stretching the back of your body – your hamstrings, glutes, and spinal muscles – to the extent that it’s appropriate for you.
In this workshop, we will break down the anatomy of the body in forward folds. We will identify typical areas of tightness and weakness that can be barriers to proper alignment as we fold forward; use massage balls and creative exercises to relieve tension and create spaciousness; and practice out-of-the-box exercises to improve forward folds. Students can expect to leave the workshop with:
• A better understanding of your personal anatomy and how it relates to your forward fold practice
• Knowledge of self-care techniques, including self-massage, to improve forward folds
• Tools to find proper alignment in any forward fold and exercises to continue to improve your personal practice
*Note: No Yoga experience necessary. All props will be provided. Tight clothing is recommended for use with therapy balls.
